  • Benton County and Bentonville are named in honor of Thomas Hart Benton, a U.S. Senator from Missouri, who played a key role in persuading congress to admit Arkansas to the Union on September 30, 1836, as the 25th state. The County was organized in 1836.

  • The War Eagle Bridge is the oldest active steel expansion bridge standing in Benton County. It was completed in early 1908 and enjoyed its 100th year celebration in 2008.

  • The city of Bentonville was declared the county seat of Benton County by the Arkansas Assembly in 1836. The courthouse, which currently serves the county, was completed in 1928. It is the fourth courthouse used in the history of Benton County.

  • In the 2000 census, the mean household in Benton County was $67,822 & the average U. S. income was $62,516.

  • The Benton County population percent of change from April of 2000 to July of 2009 is 47.1%. This population explosion has made it the second largest County in the State. Pulaski County (Little Rock) is number one and Washington County (Fayetteville) is number 3.

  • The Battle of Pea Ridge was the largest battle fought west of Mississippi and the only battle that involved large organized Cherokee troops.
